Back in June 2019 I travelled with my brother to the Outer Hebrides for a short two day trip. Roger was carrying out commissioning and training for a fuel tank installation on the island of Benbecula, and asked me if I fancied coming along to lend a hand and have a quick tour of some of the islands - if we had time before our homeward ferry.
We made the 8 hour drive north onto Skye and then after a quick detour to get a view of the Cuillins we caught the evening ferry from Uig to Lochmaddy on North Uist, and from there onto Benbecula.
After completing the fuel tank work ahead of schedule, we were then free to explore mountains Hecla and Beinn Mhor on South Uist - from which we got big views of islands and sea in all directions.
After hitching a lift back to our van we went for a pint in the Am Politician pub on Eriskay, where in 1941 the cargo ship SS Politician - with 260,000 bottles of whisky on board - ran aground in a storm.
